We think that the path forward is through distillation of neural data; and the most impactful path for neuroAI is toward AI safety. In this blog post, we unpack how we came to that conclusion; how the emulation and distillation paths to AI safety differ in their payoff timelines; what we can hope to learn from the brain’s representations; and why we think AI safety is over-leveraged on a handful of approaches.
